Manaslu Region

Manaslu region is newly opened but popular trekking area in Nepal. The area is naturally beautiful and culturally reaches.  Mount Manaslu with the elevation of 8,163 meters above sea level, is the eighth-highest mountain in the world.

This mountain has been successfully climbed and topped by a Japanese expedition team, Gyalzen Norbu and Toshio Imanishi.

The Manaslu area borders Tibet and is also called Manaslu Conservation Area. You can discover hidden valleys and unexplored trails by trekking to Manaslu. The two most important places in Manaslu are Nubri and Tsum.

The Upper Manaslu is dominated by the Bhutias, also known as Bhotias, at the trans-Himalayan frontier close to Tibet. They have their own culture, traditions, and lifestyle. You will find flat-roofed homes, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and chortens in the remote areas. Also, nomadic herding practices are common.

Due to inaccessibility of transport and the many trails to explore, trekking to Manaslu is very adventurous. Trekking for more than a day requires good health and physical fitness. You may need to rest for a few more days in order to properly acclimatize.

Manaslu Conservation Area houses more than 110 species, 33 mammals, 11 butterflies and 3 reptiles. The most endangered are the snow leopards and pandas, which are critically endangered.

There are many opportunities to climb and trek in the Manaslu area. Tsum Valley Trek, which traverses the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Areas of Nepal and southern Tibet, and Larkya-La Pass, are the two main trekking spots in the region. These passes happen to be some of the most extensive mountain passes.

Best time for Trekking

Between September and May is the best time to trek in Manaslu region. There are very few teahouses in the Manaslu Conservation Area. However, it is highly recommended to do full-board camping. For group trekkers who want to trek the Manaslu Circuit or Tsum Valley, a special permit must be obtained along with Manaslu Conservation Area permits.
